M2M (Machine to Machine) is a concept based on the exchange of information between two machines or devices, allowing us to automate processes and generate telemetry projects, location, security systems, among others.
Using your Arduino Shield who have a range of projects that can develop transmit sensor information and the location of these to a server or smartphone, and also transfer information between two of these systems.
This card has a GPRS / GSM module that can deliver and receive information via wireless connectivity, such as text messages, phone calls and data to a server.
The M2M Shield also has a GPS module with which you can acquire satellite data (latitude, longitude, date, time and other parameters) and a micro SD socket for storage of various frames captured by the GPS module, as well as can store data of various kinds, such as sensor information, connectivity, etc. all thanks to the merger between your Arduino Shield and M2M.
By merely adding a battery without the need to maintain a computer connected to the module, you will have a small receiver and transmitter low-cost data center.
With over your Arduino Shield M2M you can spend from serial communication GPRS / GMS, using pins 2 and 3, as well as the acquisition of information via GPS through serial communication via pins 8 and 9. The micro SD handled through the SPI protocol with the pin 6 Enable (CS).
It has a socket for a stack of 12mm, which keeps the GPS module configuration.
Remember to use a micro SIM card with balance available (to do the M2M Shield has a micro SIM socket).

The Arduino M2M Shield operation is based on the GPS (Quectel L80) and GPRS / GSM (Quectel M66), which are low-power modules.
